Last week Ryan and I decided that it was time for spring on our play table. We worked together to set up our spring farm complete with needle felted garden! Of course 2 days later we got 8 inches of snow outside!

Tree of Life Workshop

What a wonderful day we had. Today was day 2 of our "Tree of Life" workshop through our homeschool co-op. Last we we met the trees and "took pictures" of them by doing leaf rubbings. Today on our walk the kids brought sleds (we got 8" of snow on Friday)and we found a great gentle hill to go down a few times. After that we listened to the trees using a stethascope. I never knew you could listen to a tree - it was a wonderful experience. To top the day of, we found a wigwam and sat inside, sang a song and our workshop leader read a poem!

Gnomes

Ryan is learning how to sew. He made 3 of the gnomes in the picture. Later Sage joined us in making gnomes to add to the family. He is just learning to sew as well and I'm very proud of him for sticking with it and not getting discouraged.

A wonderful time washing and hanging the silks out to dry.

Sage turns 12

Yesterday was Sage's birthday, he turned 12 years old! I cant not believe how much time has gone by. He is a wonderful, beautiful boy and I am very thankful he is a part of my life. This weekend for his birthday present we are taking him back to Brooklyn to go ice skating in Prospect Park!

This morning did not start off as I had hoped. I woke with a migraine and we were unable to go to our waldorf homeschool co-op that we love dearly. That also meant that I had to lay down for about an hour while unfortunatly Ryan watched tv. I guess I should'nt beat myself up to much. Thats the first time in several days that the tv had been on.

Once I felt better I gave Ryan a ticket to attend a puppet show (that got him to turn the tv off quickly) I retold the story of The Little Palace. He loved it and then it was my turn to watch him tell his version. We had so much fun. Later we drew a picture of the animals in the story and for the FIRST TIME he helped me with a picture. This week he has loved coloring with his block crayons. We have a full wall of pictures!!

Puppet show's

We had a great night. I told the story of Hans and the Wonderful Flower to Sage and Ryan using the puppets. After that Ryan and Sage both told their own versions. It is wonderful to see them use their imaginations. Even though Sage will be turning 12 soon, he enjoys putting on a puppet show for his brother and me.

King Winter Rules the Land...

Monday we had a great time making up stories for the puppets to act out. Ryan's story involved the horse wanting to know who King Winter was and went to visit his friend owl to find out. The story then leads them on an adventure. He is getting to be a wonderful storyteller.

We've started having weekly story time again. I love the idea of telling a story vs always reading a story. I told the story of Hans and the wonderful flower from For The Children's Hour. Then we made a flower out of beeswax to go along with the story.
